Visual Designer

With over 35 nationalities and a range of backgrounds represented in our Benevolent team, we aim to build an inclusive environment where our people can bring their authentic selves to work, be respected for who they are and the exceptional work they do. We welcome and actively encourage applications from all sections of society and are committed to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, disability, age, citizenship, or any other basis. We see our diversity as an asset as we tackle challenging problems that bridge the gap between drug discovery and technology.

The Role

BenevolentAI is on a mission to change the way we discover and create new medicines. We’ve built a platform of computational and experimental technologies and processes that can advance the entire drug development process. We’re now building a team of designers to help take our platform to the next level.

As a Visual Designer, you will join a cross-functional squad that designs and develops user-facing products for our internal users — experts in biology, chemistry, and clinical sciences. In this role you will be shaping the look and feel of our products (covering all aspects of user interface) and design novel ways in which data visualisation can enable scientific insight and discovery.

Working closely with members of our product, engineering, design, and science teams, you will address non-trivial user needs such as exploring vast quantities of mined and inferred biomedical data, understanding predictions from AI models, or making informed decisions for complex multi-parameter problems.

While driving our visual design and UI design work from concept, through prototyping and testing, to implementation, you will also own and evolve our design system.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create, refine, and deliver user interface concepts, wireframes, prototypes, specifications, and assets across all stages of the product development process
  • Apply user-centred design principles and practices to meet user needs and product requirements
  • Work closely with members of the engineering teams to support the implementation of design specifications
  • Communicate design work and rationale to team members and stakeholders
  • Maintain and evolve visual standards and design consistency across products

We are looking for someone with

  • Experience in digital product design working on user-facing projects
  • A design portfolio highlighting multiple projects, your process, direct contributions, and demonstrated use of visual design principles and practices (typography, colour, layout, etc.) as well as high attention to detail
  • Excellent skills in low- and high-fidelity user interface design, including proficiency with industry standard design tools, e.g. Sketch, Photoshop, Marvel, Figma
  • Experience working creatively with data and data visualisation
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively present design work and articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience working with iterative software development teams in a cross-functional setting, employing agile and lean practices
  • Ability to write clearly
  • Experience working with a design system
  • Ability to work independently and under time pressure
  • Curiosity, open mind to work on complex challenges in scientific domains
  • Experience in a relevant sector (life science, healthcare, data science, etc.) is a plus

We share a passion for being part of a mission that matters, and we are always looking for curious and collaborative people who share our values and want to be part of our journey.  If that sounds like a fit for you, hit the apply button and join us.
