UX Design Internship · London

With over 35 nationalities and a range of backgrounds represented in our Benevolent team, we aim to build an inclusive environment where our people can bring their authentic selves to work, be respected for who they are and the exceptional work they do. We welcome and actively encourage applications from all sections of society and are committed to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, disability, age, citizenship, or any other basis. We see our diversity as an asset as we tackle challenging problems that bridge the gap between drug discovery and technology.

The Role

We are seeking one UX designer to join our London team and work within our Apps department. As part of the UX team, you will work on taking our suite of tools to the next level of usability and professionalism. Bring your attention to detail and eye for design to a review of our many UIs, and make recommendations for improvements. You will own a project in which you will provide design and copy recommendations for a more consistent, usable suite of digital products and present your findings to key stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team comprising specialists in engineering, design, product management and drug discovery.
  • Go through a handful of our products with a critical eye and identify and document inconsistencies in the visual design, micro-interactions, and terminology we use.
  • Noting usability issues that stand out to you.
  • Working with the UX team and users to prioritise the issues you found.
  • Producing design recommendations for improvements to solve key issues.
  • Soliciting feedback on your recommendations and iterating accordingly.
  • Present the final outcomes of your work to a group of stakeholders.
  • If time allows, you may also have the opportunity to support other designers in new feature design work, user research, and/or design operations activities (e.g. accessibility guidance, design system expansion.)

We are looking for someone with

  • A strong background showcasing creativity and persistence in efforts.
  • A passion for user-centred design and usability.
  • Basic knowledge of interaction design, UI patterns and usability principles.
  • Experience with Figma (or a similar design tool and willingness to learn Figma).
  • A keen eye for inconsistencies, points of confusion and unnecessary complexity – in both visual and written communication.
  • A portfolio of case studies demonstrating the above.
  • Good communication skills who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment.
Nice to haves
  • Experience working with and/or developing a design system.
  • Experience conducting usability studies.
  • Experience performing heuristic evaluations.
  • Experience factoring accessibility guidelines into your designs.

We share a passion for being part of a mission that matters, and we are always looking for curious and collaborative people who share our values and want to be part of our journey.  If that sounds like a fit for you, hit the apply button and join us.
