We welcome and actively encourage applications from all sections of society and are committed to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, disability, age, citizenship, or any other basis. We see our diversity as an asset as we tackle challenging problems that bridge the gap between drug discovery and technology.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated lab-based drug discovery scientist to join our In Vitro Biology team focusing on cellular assay development and screening. You will contribute to our technology-enabled drug discovery programmes, from hit identification through to pre-clinical. As a central member of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of scientists passionate about reinventing the way new medicines are developed, you will bring your understanding of in vitro biological technologies and drug discovery to progress projects into clinical evaluation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop cell based assays to drive SAR
  • Carry out cell-based medium to high throughput screening of novel therapeutic compounds to support pipeline projects
  • Maintain cell cultures including cell lines, primary cells and/or iPSCs
  • Generate and follow detailed SOPs
  • Critically analyse and interpret data, define realistic timelines for studies and meet delivery deadlines to execute high impact studies
  • Report findings to project teams
  • Capture data using electronic lab books and databases such as Dotmatics
  • Use automation and scope novel technologies and equipment
  • Work with cross-functional teams to deliver key assay data
  • Mentor junior members of staff

We are looking for someone with

  • PhD with assay development experience or a minimum of 5 years industrial experience in cellular screening.
  • Industry research experience is preferred but not required
  • Experience with a range of cellular assays and technologies (such as ELISA, MSD, reporter gene, viability, high content & live-cell imaging, flow cytometry) required
  • Experience with in vitro plate-based technologies (absorbance, fluorescence, TR-FRET, luminescence, etc) required
  • Experience working in cell culture with immortalised cell lines desired. Bonus points for experience with primary cells, iPSCs, primary tissue and complex cultures (co-cultures or 3D cultures)
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (Western blotting and qPCR/PCR techniques) preferred
  • Familiarity with electronic lab notebooks
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail
