The Role

We are looking for a Senior Scientist - Biomarker Discovery to join BenevolentAI, a leading AI driven drug discovery company, at the Cambridge research site. As the Senior Scientist - Biomarker Discovery you will be responsible for developing assays for biomarker projects. This is a great opportunity for an experienced immunoassay development scientist with a background in analysing preclinical and/or clinical samples for identification of discovery biomarkers to join the In Vitro Biology team at Benevolent, where the role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally across the business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop bespoke complex biomarker assays to successfully quantify analytes found in biofluids and tissues samples.
  • Validate immunoassays and provide appropriate levels of biomarker assay qualification and validation.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for biomarker immunoassays - optimise experimental design, troubleshoot technical issues and provide expertise in assay progression from R&D to clinical development phases.
  • Interpret laboratory data, generate reports and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with industry experience.
  • Extensive Ligand Binding Assay development experience with platforms such as ELISA, and MSD.
  • Experience working within GxP regulated laboratory measuring biomarkers.
  • Experience successfully working in multi-disciplinary drug discovery & development teams, with excellent communication skills and the ability to forge productive relationships and collaborations both internally and externally.
  • Experience with automation and screening is preferred.
  • Experience in biochemical and cell based assays is desired.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (Western blotting, RT-qPCR and flow cytometry) is desired.
  • Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks and data management systems (eg Dotmatics, ActivityBase) is desired.
  • Evidence of creative thinking and problem solving, confidently applying novel strategies to move projects to important decision points quickly and efficiently.

Nice to haves

  • Experience working in cell culture with immortalised cell lines, primary cells, iPSCs, primary tissue and complex cultures (co-cultures or 3D cultures).
  • Familiarity with Bioanalysis, Pharmacokinetic, LC-MS/MS, LC/MS/MS would be beneficial but not essential.
