The Company

BenevolentAI unites technology with human intelligence to re-engineer drug discovery and deliver life-changing medicines. We have developed the Benevolent Platform®, a drug discovery platform built on powerful data foundations with state of the art machine learning and AI technology. Our technology empowers scientists to decipher the vast and complex code underlying human biology, find new ways to treat disease and personalise medicines to patients. Benevolent has active in-house R&D drug programmes in disease areas such as neurodegeneration, immunology, oncology and inflammation and has research and commercial collaborations with leading pharmaceutical and research organisations. The company is headquartered in London with a research facility in Cambridge (UK) and a further office in New York.

Who we are

We are an eclectic bunch at Benevolent, united by our belief that innovative thinking and purposeful technology can truly change outcomes for the better. Our mission is to re-engineer drug discovery and deliver life-changing medicines for patients in need and we do this by applying AI, machine learning and other advanced technologies to reinvent the ways drugs are discovered and developed. We strive to bring together unique skills and perspectives across biology, chemistry, engineering, AI research, informatics, precision medicine and drug discovery.

As the Senior Scientist - Biomarker Discovery you will be responsible for developing assays for biomarker projects. This is a great opportunity for an experienced immunoassay development scientist with a background in analysing preclinical and/or clinical samples for identification of discovery biomarkers to join the In Vitro Biology team at Benevolent, where the role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally across the business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop bespoke complex biomarker assays to successfully quantify analytes found in biofluids and tissues samples.
  • Validate immunoassays and provide appropriate levels of biomarker assay qualification and validation.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for biomarker immunoassays - optimise experimental design, troubleshoot technical issues and provide expertise in assay progression from R&D to clinical development phases.
  • Interpret laboratory data, generate reports and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with industry experience.
  • Extensive Ligand Binding Assay development experience with platforms such as ELISA, and MSD.
  • Experience working within GxP regulated laboratory measuring biomarkers.
  • Experience successfully working in multi-disciplinary drug discovery & development teams, with excellent communication skills and the ability to forge productive relationships and collaborations both internally and externally.
  • Experience with automation and screening is preferred.
  • Experience in biochemical and cell based assays is desired.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (Western blotting, RT-qPCR and flow cytometry) is desired.
  • Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks and data management systems (eg Dotmatics, ActivityBase) is desired.
  • Evidence of creative thinking and problem solving, confidently applying novel strategies to move projects to important decision points quickly and efficiently.

Nice to haves
