UX Design

Senior Product Designer

With over 35 nationalities and a range of backgrounds represented in our Benevolent team, we aim to build an inclusive environment where our people can bring their authentic selves to work, be respected for who they are and the exceptional work they do. We welcome and actively encourage applications from all sections of society and are committed to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, disability, age, citizenship, or any other basis. We see our diversity as an asset as we tackle challenging problems that bridge the gap between drug discovery and technology.

The Role

BenevolentAI is on a mission to change the way we discover and create new medicines. To this end, we’ve built a platform of computational and experimental technologies and processes that can advance the entire drug development process. We’re now growing our User Experience Team to help take our platform to the next level.

As a Product Designer, you will join an interdisciplinary team that designs and develops user-facing products for our users: experts in biology, chemistry, and clinical sciences. In this role, you will cover most aspects of the product design work including generating design concepts, user testing, creating user interface, and championing a design thinking approach to everything we do at BenevolentAI.

Working closely with members of our engineering, product, design, data, and science teams, you will address non-trivial user needs such as exploring vast quantities of mined and inferred biomedical data, understanding predictions from AI models, or making informed decisions for complex multi-parameter problems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create, iterate on, and deliver UX design concepts, prototypes, as well as UI specifications and assets for use in all stages of product development process
  • Champion and apply user-centred principles and practices to address complex user needs and product requirements
  • Plan, develop, and conduct qualitative and quantitative research informing design direction and evaluation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional squads and internal users to support the execution of our product roadmap through the design of features, workflows, and experiences
  • Communicate design concepts and rationale to team members and a wide range of stakeholder.

We are looking for someone with

  • With experience in digital product design, especially consumer products and with a significant technological or data component
  • A design portfolio with multiple case studies showing an articulated design process, clearly stated personal contributions to team projects, demonstrated use of design to solve user problems, and high attention to detail
  • The ability to demonstrate excellent skills in low- to high-fidelity UX design, prototyping, and user testing, including proven proficiency in industry-standard tools and practices
  • The ability to demonstrate excellent and versatile communication skills catering for various business needs (including, for example, negotiating with stakeholders, interviewing users, presenting design work, instructional design, articulating nuanced concepts to diverse audiences)
  • Documented experience working with iterative software development teams in a cross-functional setting, employing agile and lean practices
  • An ability to work independently but towards common goals, under time pressure, and with shifting priorities and requirements
  • An ability to write clearly (e.g. UX microcopy, user guides, plain English)
  • A genuine curiosity, ability to learn, and an open mind to work on complex challenges in various scientific domains
  • Experience in a relevant sector (life science, clinical studies, healthcare, etc.) is a plus

We share a passion for being part of a mission that matters, and we are always looking for curious and collaborative people who share our values and want to be part of our journey.  If that sounds like a fit for you, hit the apply button and join us.
