Senior Principal Scientist - DMPK Project Representative

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding group supporting a growing pipeline of projects. The team is looking for a motivated individual with a track record of working within project teams as the DMPK point of contact, who is able to show how they successfully influenced the progress of the teams they were a part of. Reporting to the Director of DMPK and In Vivo. You will play an important role in helping to shape the non-clinical PK/PD strategy for projects. You will be expected to engage fully in multi-functional collaborations to support profiling of lead compounds/drug candidates, building a clear picture of IVIVC PK/PD, and ultimately to ensure translation from in vitro data and in vivo non-clinical studies to the prediction of pharmacokinetics, efficacy and safety in patients.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Build open, honest, and collaborative relationships within and outside the DMPK function.
  • Lead the DMPK activities within a project and work with colleagues within and across projects, influencing the way we support drug discovery.
  • Interpretation/communication of DMPK data and recommendations to the drug discovery project team to aid effective drug design and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and execute effective nonclinical PK/PD strategies from early discovery through to development.
  • Write ADME and pharmacokinetic reports and regulatory documents (IB, IND/IMPD).
  • Coach and manage junior staff to foster a highly innovative mindset and guide development of new assays, being a role model for scientific excellence.

We are looking for someone with

  • A track record of transitioning projects from discovery to the clinic, able to demonstrate successful prediction of pharmacokinetics using a variety of methods, good understanding of drug properties, metabolism, and mechanisms impacting the pharmacokinetic profile of compounds and optimisation of compounds to improve drug-like properties and safety.
  • An in-depth understanding of a therapy area, ideally neuroscience and oncology, also metabolic diseases, drug safety etc would be valuable, along with a good understanding of pharmacology and pharmacologic processes related to disease and drug mechanisms.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of the full drug development processes in the Pharma Industry environment with proven experience in successfully developing and executing effective nonclinical PK/PD strategies from early discovery through to development.
  • Experience M&S tools such as Phoenix, SimCYP, Gastroplus etc would be an advantage.
  • A calm team player with a proactive and positive problem-solving mindset, confident to contribute strategically and implement ideas to drive assays, processes and targets forward. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and on multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines, working closely with colleagues to schedule studies in-house and balancing with outsourcing external studies where required.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with internal and external colleagues at all levels. You will be willing to share knowledge, connecting across functions and with more junior members of the team.
