We welcome and actively encourage applications from all sections of society and are committed to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, disability, age, citizenship, or any other basis. We see our diversity as an asset as we tackle challenging problems that bridge the gap between drug discovery and technology.

The Role

As a Data Scientist in Target Identification, you will be responsible for developing and executing an applied research agenda around the core problems we work on at BenevolentAI. In particular, you will focus on building tools that leverage the extensive range of data sources and models at BenevolentAI in order to identify promising, novel drug targets for the diseases in our portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team comprising of specialists in informatics, engineering, AI, drug discovery and product. In these teams, you will apply your expertise in data science to develop tools for drug discovery and development in an applied research setting.
  • Working closely with drug discovery experts to build tools for combining disparate data sources and models to identify the most promising targets for our portfolio.
  • Determine metrics for evaluating the utility of new data sources and models.
  • Develop tools to communicate the signal provided by different data sources to expert drug discovery users.
  • Develop workflows for applying our data and models to new problem areas outside of Target ID, such as drug repurposing.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Disseminate data science expertise to less experienced members of the team.
  • Promote software development and data science best practices, such as: unit and integration testing, code review, and automated data quality assurance.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest research to identify promising research directions for improving our platform.

We are looking for someone with

  • Experience building data pipelines and developing product-worthy tools from them.
  • Significant experience applying statistical methods to understanding patterns and trends in large datasets.
  • Experience building models on tabular data, e.g. logistic regression, random forests, boosting models.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate complex data science and statistical concepts to a broad audience.
  • Be visionary (think about what should be done beyond what you're doing).
Nice to haves
  • Bonus points if you have experience applying data science or machine learning in drug discovery, and/or knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on drug discovery.

We share a passion for being part of a mission that matters, and we are always looking for curious and collaborative people who share our values and want to be part of our journey.  If that sounds like a fit for you, hit the apply button and join us.
