Senior Data Acquisition Specialist

With over 35 nationalities and a range of backgrounds represented in our Benevolent team, we aim to build an inclusive environment where our people can bring their authentic selves to work, be respected for who they are and the exceptional work they do. We welcome and actively encourage applications from all sections of society and are committed to offering equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, parental status, disability, age, citizenship, or any other basis. We see our diversity as an asset as we tackle challenging problems that bridge the gap between drug discovery and technology.

The Role

We would like to hear from applicants with a keen interest in data landscaping and acquisition as well as data management. You will find yourself working as part of a cross-functional team supporting the application of BenevolentAI’s data integration, target identification and precision medicine activities to our drug discovery programs.

The Portfolio Delivery team helps ensure our internal analysis tools and algorithms, as well as our data, are used to their fullest extent in our drug discovery programs. It helps structure our drug discovery workflows and devises new approaches to help answer biological questions raised by our various disease programs, for example to help identify and validate potential drug targets or support the identification of biomarkers.

As a Senior Data Acquisition Specialist in the team, you will contribute to this challenge by providing support to our drug discovery teams in the identification of relevant cohorts or datasets, in the creation of strong links with potential collaborators and in the application of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Creating or maintaining relationships with third parties with access to large cohorts or large patient datasets for the purpose of data generation or acquisition.
  • Helping with the identification of relevant datasets and cohorts for our disease programmes.
  • Reviewing the insights produced by our pipelines to help present relevant data to our drug discovery scientists and clinical experts in the context of data landscaping..
  • Supporting the continued application of FAIR principles in our data management processes and upholding reglementation relevant to patient tissue or data handling.
  • Interacting with our legal and data governance teams to ensure their oversight in terms of data access and handling.

We are looking for someone with

  • BSc or MSc in data management, data analytics, or equivalent. Alternatively a BSc or MSc in bioinformatics, computational biology or related field with interest in data acquisition and management
  • Experience of data acquisition and management, including defining collaboration contracts relating to data or cohort access with third parties ideally in an industrial or academic institute setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FAIR data management principles
  • Knowledge of regulations relevant to patient tissue or patient data handling.
  • Sufficient knowledge of human genetics and genomic data including next generation sequencing methodologies and their use in drug discovery to take part in discussions with data suppliers around data quality, best practices and to understand relevance to the issue at hand.
  • Some programming knowledge is a plus but not necessary.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels and across all departments.

We share a passion for being part of a mission that matters, and we are always looking for curious and collaborative people who share our values and want to be part of our journey.  If that sounds like a fit for you, hit the apply button and join us.
