Screening Scientist

The Role

We are looking for an innovative and highly creative lab-based drug discovery scientist to join the assay development and screening team focused on AI-driven research projects. We are looking for a scientist/senior scientist (depending on experience) to develop and run plate-based screening assays and to support several programmes across the company's portfolio. You will be expected to analyse and report data to project teams and work in collaboration with cross-functional teams. You will also help support compound management in order to drive projects forward.

Based at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge (UK), you will work closely with experts in artificial intelligence, informatics, biological sciences, and chemical sciences teams to devise creative ways to reimagine the way medicines are discovered.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop biochemical assays using a range of techniques.
  • Screen small molecules in biochemical assays.
  • Accurately analyse and report SAR data following SOP guidelines.
  • Compound management.
  • Use of automation for assays and compound management.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Screen small molecules in cell-based assays.
  • Capture data using electronic lab books and databases such as Dotmatics.
  • Write guidance documents and SOPs.

We are looking for someone with

  • BSc degree in a biological related science.
  • Drug discovery experience preferred.
  • Experience in developing, optimising and running in vitro biochemical and cell-based screens.
  • Knowledge of Fluorescence, Luminescence, Absorption, TR-FRET and Fluorescence Polarisation technologies.
  • Experience with automation is preferred.
  • Experience dissolving compounds from solid stocks and generating dilution plates is preferred.
  • Experience with biophysical techniques such as SPR and NanoTemper is beneficial.
  • Aseptic technique is desirable.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects and assays.
  • A positive mindset to problem-solving with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner at all times ensuring procedures/SOPs are followed at all times.
