Lead AI Scientist

The Role

You will be responsible for developing and executing a research and development agenda around the core problems we work on at BenevolentAI - scientific discovery from structured and unstructured data sources. You will be part of the cross-functional Knowledge team and report to the Head of AI.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the AI strategy of the NLP team
  • Identify and develop state-of-the-art AI / ML methods which bring value to our knowledge extraction and information retrieval pipelines
  • Define research directions to improve AI / ML methods as applied to drug discovery, and deliver that applied research alongside your team
  • Measure and communicate the value of developed methods for audiences of differing technical ability
  • Promote machine learning best practices, such as: scalable training and deployment, model introspection and evaluation, new state-of-the-art implementations, data quality investigations, etc.
  • Work as a hands-on member of a cross-functional team comprising specialists in NLP, knowledge representation, engineering, AI, bioinformatics, drug discovery, and product. In these teams, you will apply the latest advances in machine learning to develop tools for drug discovery and development.

Please apply if you have any combination of these skills:

  • PhD with a strong Machine Learning component
  • At least 2 years of industry experience
  • Experience in the biomedical domain
  • A background including NLP (ideally information extraction)
  • Proven examples in delivering projects with business value
  • An ability to develop a multi-year research vision and to deliver against that vision
  • Experience as a team lead and in establishing best practices
  • Proficiency in modern ML frameworks (pytorch, tensorflow, etc.)
