The Role

We are seeking one data scientist to join our New York team and work within our Knowledge product area. Data Science is at the heart of BenevolentAI, transforming our massive and complex biomedical data into valuable tools for drug discovery. As part of the Knowledge product area, you will work on transforming our massive and complex biomedical data into valuable tools for drug discovery. As a Data Scientist Intern, you will work on the multi-disciplinary Data Quality team in our Knowledge group. You will apply your skills to develop new analyses and visualizations in order to rigorously understand and improve the quality of our data and methods for information extraction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Pursue a research project to investigate new approaches in applying tech-driven methods for drug discovery and development.
  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team comprising specialists in informatics, engineering, AI, drug discovery and product for applied research.
  • Work with your team to establish appropriate data quality controls, benchmarks, and meaningful performance metrics.
  • Design and implement data analysis and visualizations in Python to better understand the quality of our data and information extraction systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality and engineer solutions in the context of well-maintained and well-documented code bases.
  • Communicate findings and results to your team.

We are looking for someone with

  • A strong background showcasing creativity and persistence in efforts.
  • A BSc/BEng, MSc/MEng or PhD in data science, or a related field with an interest in data science, or equivalent/alternative commercial or academic experience.
  • Strong programming skills (Python etc).
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods for data curation and analysis.
  • Experience using data science tools for manipulating and visualizing data such as Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-learn, Jupyter notebooks, etc.
  • A problem-solving, impact-oriented mindset with an ability to understand user needs.
  • Good communication skills who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment.
Nice to haves
  • Knowledge of biology and experience working with biomedical data.
  • Experience working with NLP and/or knowledge graphs.
