The Role

We use Intellectual Property (IP) at BenevolentAI in three ways: (i) as a fundamental part of our business model, (ii) to help out-innovate our competition, and (iii) to increase our enterprise value. Responsibility for IP falls within the Compliance, Legal, and Intellectual Property (CLIP) team. As Data Licensing Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of IP related to data. You will report to the Vice President Intellectual Property, and work with a fantastic team of other IP professionals. Your work will cover a combination of commercial and legal activities, including data requirements gathering, data license negotiation, open-source licensing, contract management, and compliance. We are looking for a friendly and motivated individual. We want someone keen to drive IP activities to fulfil our exciting company vision.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Securing third-party data licenses to support the company’s existing and emerging data requirements
  • Negotiating and reviewing high level commercial and contractual acquisition and licensing terms
  • Building and maintaining relationships with existing and potential data providers
  • Educating data providers on our business, how their data might be used in our technology, and feasible data licensing business models
  • Facilitating internal integration and usage of data sources, including educating product and technology teams on licensing obligations and other governance and compliance requirements
  • Licensing renewals including re-evaluations and renegotiation
  • Capturing and mitigating third-party data risks
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to understand requirements, educate on licensing obligations, and implement solutions

We are looking for someone with

  • Adaptability, and ability to embrace change in a high growth company
  • Ability to identify required activities and set priorities without direction
  • Effective communication skills to engage a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Negotiation and influencing skills and experience
  • Experience in commercial data acquisition/in-licensing, preferably in a commercial organisation
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant licensing concepts and contract terms
  • Understanding of scientific data licensing, industry, jurisdictional issues, and commercial deal structures

We share a passion for being part of a mission that matters, and we are always looking for curious and collaborative people who share our values and want to be part of our journey.  If that sounds like a fit for you, hit the apply button and join us.
