Cloud Security Engineer

The Role

As a cloud security engineer, you will be working within a small information security team to plan, build and run security services within our cloud (AWS) environments. You will be responsible for developing security procedures and standards, providing threat assessments, and implementing effective security controls to protect company assets. You will collaborate across all business units promoting effective security practices, providing consultancy on cloud security issues, and staying up to date with industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Securing our cloud-native (AWS) distributed system architecture through the implementation of proactive and continuous monitoring controls.
  • Create security tools and implement them to enhance our specific security landscape.
  • Provide hands-on security support and guidance for site reliability engineering teams working in AWS.
  • Assess our existing AWS deployments and identify security improvements.
  • Support the vulnerability management program and drive the remediation of vulnerabilities within cloud services.
  • Assist in the development of our Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Prepare and document standards, work instructions and SOP.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and threat modelling.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Advocating the DevSecOps mindset that we have created across our engineering teams.

We are looking for someone with

  • 3+ years experience in a related security role.
  • Computer Science degree or related experience.
  • Experience with Security frameworks (NIST, ISO, CIS).
  • Excellent experience with AWS products including IAM, Lambda, GuardDuty, CloudTrail, VPC networking (DX, Transit Gateway, VPN, Peering), KMS, GuardDuty, and other security-related services.
  • Experience implementing cloud security capabilities in areas of IAM, endpoint security, network security, data protection and application security practices and environments within AWS.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes/container technologies and how they are used for workloads.
  • Strong automation skills using tools such as Terraform.
  • An understanding of global regulatory requirements when migrating applications and data to the Public Cloud.
Nice to haves
  • GIAC certifications (CGSA, GPPA, GCED)
  • AWS Certified Security
  • Understanding of incident response procedures, able to assist in incident handling.
  • Understanding of traditional network security tools such as firewalls, web proxies, and mail gateways.
