Assistant Management Accountant

The Role

The role reports to the Finance Manager, based in Cambridge, to support the Financial Operations team, predominantly with management accounting monthly tasks and a variety of support to Finance. This role is also an important ambassador of Finance to the wider company in a business partnering role, helping proactively with non-finance teams with finance and procurement queries.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Expensify System support – To support the finance approval and managing users for the group expenses systems administration and support users and processing in NetSuite for UK and US employees
  • Management Accounts Support– Processing month-end transactions across a number of entities, assisting Financial Operations and FP&A teams with ad hoc and regular work to support prompt and accurate reporting of monthly management accounts, performance analysis and reporting. This is likely to include working on:
    - fixed asset accounting
    - bank reconciliations
    - staff expenses accounting
    - prepayment accounting
    - accrual accounting
    - journal entries
    - review of actual transactions to check for appropriate coding to the general ledger
  • Timesheet management - to manage the setup and completion of the timesheet system for our drug discovery team to ensure monthly completion on time and completeness, adding users and projects, and setting up for each new calendar year
  • Accounts Payable and Purchase Order support - to assist as back up to accounts payable team and procurement function to cover absences/workload fluctuations
  • review of actual transactions to check for appropriate coding to the general ledger

We are looking for someone with

  • Part qualified management accounting with a strong grasp of double-entry accounting and process and controls knowledge and mindset
  • Strong systems experience and interest to become a superuser on Netsuite accounting platform and Expenses platform(s)
  • A highly motivated individual who can communicate well at all levels with finance and non-finance individuals
  • Good planning and documentation skills to help yourself and others quickly reference key information and meet deadlines
  • Can adapt and embrace change in a fast growing company and proactively look for improvements to the processes and controls to support increased transaction volumes
  • A team-oriented approach to working
  • A change agent, comfortable with a fast pace
  • Can navigate ambiguity, and drive results
  • At least Intermediate Excel (Vlookups/Pivots)
